The 10 Best Lyric Lines From Pink’s “Just Give Me A Reason”

$

0

It’s safe to say that Pink fans just cannot get enough of her single “Just Me A Reason“, which was co-written by Nate Ruess of fun. who also sings on the track. We must admit, it’s a powerful track about the fear of losing the one you love, but we thought it would be best to pick apart the song to see why listeners are totally in love with this tune. So, from ten to one, we’re counting down the best lyrical lines in Pink & Nate’s heart-wrenching anthem…

10. “You’ve been havin’ real bad dreams oh oh / You used to lie so close to me oh oh”

Getting started with this line sung by Ruess, it shows how the couple in the song is having deep relationship issues because she no longer seeks comfort in him. :’(

9. “There’s nothing more than empty sheets / Between our love”

We love this metaphor because it shows how simple their problems really are: it’s just empty space between them, and they need to come together to fill it up.

8. “Oh we had everything / Yeah but this is happenin’”

These lines come from Pink in the background when Ruess is singing his verse, which showcases the vulnerable side this song strongly has. It sets the mood of the song so well.

7. “You’re holding it in / You’re pouring a drink”

Who hasn’t been in a relationship where they’re afraid to bring up what’s bothering them? We don’t all hide it with drinks, per say, but it’s so common to mask what you’re feeling when you’re with somebody. Say what’s on your mind!

6. “Oh tear ducts and rust / I’ll fix it for us / We’re collecting dust / But our love’s enough”

A sweet reminder that sometimes, love goes through rough patches and can rust and collect dust, but it’s strong enough to recover.

5. “Your head is running wild again / My dear we still have everythin’ / And it’s all in your mind”

This is a great statement to remember when your thoughts are going out of control about your relationship: sometimes, the problems are all in your head!

4. “It’s in the stars / It’s been written in the scars on our hearts”

We swoon when we hear these lines because how often do you hear about love being written in the stars? It’s an extremely rare kind of relationship these two have, and with all of the scars of the fights they’ve been through still remaining, it’s a reminder that they’ve been through thick and thin.

3. “I let you see the parts of me / That weren’t all that pretty”

These lyrics are so fragile and truly reveal how it feels to really trust somebody when you fall in love with them. They see all your flaws, and it’s a scary feeling.

2. “Right from the start, you were a thief / You stole my heart, and I your willing victim”

It’s funny how the phrase “steal your heart” can sound so menacing, but in reality, you are letting the person take your heart away from you. We’re all willing victims in the game of love!

1. “Just a second we’re not broken just bent / And we can learn to love again”

We think the words “not broken just bent” are genius: it can take a lot to bend a person, but to break one is nearly impossible. It’s a great statement that is important to remember when you’re not only feeling broken-hearted, but just upset in general: you’re not broken, just bent!

Beyonce kicked off her Mrs. Carter World Tour earlier this week in Belgrade, Serbia and played to hundreds of screaming-crying-losing-their-cool fans. We don’t even want to imagine the kinds of tears we’re going to cry when we see Queen Bey in North America so instead we wanted to focus on what we’d like to hear when she tops by our hometown...

5. “Freakum Dress

When we watched Bey’s performance of “Freakum Dress” on her I Am… World Tour DVD, we knew we needed to experience it live. With her full band including a kick-ass guitarist and a brass section, this is the ultimate crowd pump-up song. People. Will. Go. Nuts.

4. “Baby Boy

If watching the above live performance of “Baby Boy” doesn’t make you want to see it live, there’s no hope for you. Beyonce is an expert at building anticipation with her live shows and the unique instrumentation on this track makes it easy to add mystery. PLUS: super cool belly dancing!

3. “Halo

Remember those walls I built? / Well baby they’re tumbling down.” Just hearing that first line from “Halo” is enough to have us reaching for the tissues and we think seeing it live would be very powerful, and would result in a beautiful arena-wide sing-along (and definitely a clap-along!)

2. “Run The World (Girls)

The Mrs. Carter tour is Beyonce’s first time touring for her latest album 4 (an account of Miss Blue Ivy Carter!) and this was the first single from that album which makes us super eager to see what she’ll do with it performance-wise. She brought in a dance group from Africa for the video so you know she goes big.

1. “I Was Here

This is the ultimate goosebump-inducing song about living your life with the purpose of leaving a lasting legacy. If just hearing the recorded version already gives us chills, what kind of chills will we get when we hear it live in a sea of other fans? We may need a doctor…

What’s your favorite Beyonce song? What do you hope to see her perform on tour? Tell us!

When Fall Out Boy finally announced that they would be releasing their fifth studio album Save Rock And Roll, fans and critics were stunned. The band had previously gone on hiatus and was adamantly denying a reunion but luckily for us, it turned out not to be true and new music from Fall Out Boy was released. Save Rock and Roll was praised for its bravery and innovation — instead of staying the same and making the same music that fans had loved in the past, Fall Out Boy ventured into uncharted musical territory and emerged triumphant. In these two exclusive video clips, the band explains two songs from the album, “The Mighty Fall,” and “Just One Yesterday.”

Let’s face it, last week was a bad week. Start this one off on the right foot with these songs…

1. Wham! – Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go

You take the gray skies out of my way / You make the sun shine brighter than Doris Day / Turned a bright spark into a flame / My beats per minute never been the same

Waking up to this extremely happy-go-lucky Wham! song is the ultimate energizing way to start your day. Even the band’s name has an exclamation mark in it!

2. Katrina & the Waves – Walking On Sunshine

I’m walking on sunshine / And it’s starting to feel good, hey

Walking on sunshine is a great metaphor for feeling on top of your game in the happiness department and this jam from the 80′s is like musical sunshine.

3. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – Thrift Shop

I’m gonna pop some tags / Only got twenty dollars in my pocket

Who doesn’t love thrift shopping? You can find the most ridiculous, funny things and cool designer threads for cheap all in one store. Thinking of our second-hand store adventures instantly puts us in a good mood.

4. Cake – Short Skirt/Long Jacket

I want a girl with a mind like a diamond / I want a girl who knows what’s best / I want a girl with shoes that cut / And eyes that burn like cigarettes

We challenge you to watch this music video and not crack a smile: it’s impossible!

5. Bruno Mars – The Lazy Song

I’ll be lounging on the couch just chilling in my Snuggie / Click to MTV so they can teach me how to dougie

Bruno has got chilling down to a science. Snuggies + television = awesome.

6. The Turtles – Happy Together

I can’t see me loving nobody but you for all my life / When you’re with me, baby the skies will be blue for all my life

I can’t think of anyone who would find this song anything but happy (aside from these guys, I guess).

7. Barenaked Ladies – One Week

I summon fish to the dish / Although I like the Chalet Swiss / I like the sushi ’cause it’s never touched a frying pan

These lyrics make very little sense, but somehow put us into a better mood!

8. Deee-Lite – Groove Is In The Heart

Your groove, I do deeply dig,No walls, only the bridge,My supperdish, my succotash wish

Is the dancefloor at your party empty? All you need is to turn up to volume and play this amazing song — people will dance.

9. U2 – Beautiful Day

It’s a beautiful day / Don’t let it get away / It’s a beautiful day

There’s something to be said for lyrical simplicity.

10. Jackson 5 – I Want You Back

Oh baby, give me one more chance / To show you that I love you / Won’t you please let me / Back in your heart

The Jackson 5 are problably the most happy-go-lucky band to ever exist, and young Michael Jackson had an amazing voice for such a little kid.

5 Artists Who Try To Gain Cred By Name-Dropping Radiohead In Their Lyrics

Considered to be one of the greatest bands of our generation, UK alt-rockers Radiohead have influenced artist upon artist over the span of their 20+ year career in music. Famously known for their distaste with a lot of the world’s music at the moment, it’s common for their true fans to stick up their nose at you if you think you’re cool by name-dropping a Radiohead song. Whether these artists are truly cool or not (that’s up to you), we’re assuming they’re trying to gain some credibility by mentioning the iconic group in their song lyrics…

5. Datarock — True Stories

Psycho killer, Radiohead / Television man, I’m not in love…

4. Kid Rock — Lay It On Me

I got rich off a keepin’ it real / While you Radioheads are reinventin’ the wheel…

3. Airborne Toxic Event — Duet

I think maybe it was Radiohead / That had this weird little beat and a keyboard instead / Guitar playing chords, I remember how bored you would get with those bands…

2. Katy Perry — The One That Got Away

Summer after high school when we first met / We make out in your Mustang to Radiohead / And on my 18th birthday, we got matching tattoos…

1. Avril Lavigne — Here’s To Never Growing Up

Singing Radiohead at the top of our lungs / With the boom box blaring as we’re falling in love / I got a bottle of whatever but let’s get in this trunk / Singing here’s to never growing up…

Swedish Singer-Songwriter Anna Bergendahl Shares Her ‘My Musical Mind’

When Anna Bergendahl sang in front of the judges of Swedish Idol at her very first audition, her powerful, vulnerable voice and guitar playing left them speechless. Hearing her music had the exact same effect on us —  the multifaceted, mature tone of her voice is reminiscent of artists like Tracy Chapman or Norah Jones. Since competing in Idol in 2008, Anna has gone on to many great things with her music: she participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010, the Swedish song contest Melodifestivalen in the same year, and already has two albums under her belt.

We wanted to get to know Anna Bergendahl better, so we asked her about songwriting, lyrics, and her fans in the latest edition of My Musical Mind:

Anna’s album Something To Believe In is scheduled to be released in the US later this year.

“Shake your money maker like somebody ’bout to pay ya / I see you on my radar, don’t you act like you afraid of sh*t”

3. Jay-Z – Change Clothes ft. Pharrell

ROYGBIV: 7 Songs For All The Colors Of The Rainbow

$

Since we love rainbows and we love music, we thought why not make a playlist with songs that have each color of the rainbow in their titles! Remember learning “ROYGBIV” in school? Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet! This is the musical version of a rainbow:

1. Taylor Swift – Red

“But loving him was red / Oh red burning red”

Taylor Swift is a big fan of using colors as metaphors and painting a picture with her lyrics. This song also references blue (sad) and dark grey (missing somebody).

2. Alexi Murdoch – Orange Sky

“Yes I had a dream / I stood beneath an orange sky / With my brother standing by”

We remember listening to this slow, thoughtful song on repeat when it first came out on The OC and Garden State soundtracks.

3. Coldplay – Yellow

“Look at the stars / Look how they shine for you / And everything you do / Yeah, they were all yellow”

Coldplay loves colors: they have songs called “Yellow,” “Green Eyes,” and “Violet hill” so it was hard to choose just one but “Yellow” is definitely the most famous (and favorite) of the bunch.

4. Jason Aldean – Big Green Tractor

“We can go to town, but baby if you’d rather / I’ll take you for a ride on my big green tractor”

In country music, every artist is trying to be more “country” than the next. Jason Aldean shows he’s authentic by referencing his farm-boy upbringing and his big green tractor.

5. Lana Del Rey – Blue Jeans

Blue jeans, white shirt / Walked into the room you know you made my eyes burn”

We think Lana Del Rey can make just about anything sound good if she sings it (which might be why she’s in the latest ad for Jaguar — she can sell anything!) and this song makes us want to wear jeans and a white-tee. Classic!

6. Indigo Girls – Least Complicated

“So what makes me think I could start clean slated? / The hardest to learn was the least complicated”

Okay, okay,  we cheated a bit here but Indigo Girls are awesome and this song was their most popular on MetroLyrics.

7. Hole – Violet

“And the sky was all violet / I want it again but more violent, more violent”

Courtney Love’s voice is so gritty and punk rock that she makes even the prettiest color, violet, sound hardcore.

What are some more colorful songs? Tell us in the comments!

Composer/performer Ólafur Arnalds was born in the suburban Icelandic town of Mosfellsbær, and when you listen to his ethereal, pulsing music, you can hear the influence of his unique hometown. But before he started making this current style of music, Arnalds was a drummer in several metal bands. Rock on!

His new album, For Now I Am Winter, was released in February 2013 and features a full orchestra. But what makes this album so iconic for Ólafur is that it is his first to include lyrics, courtesy of Icelandic singer Arnór Dan. We’re definitely happy he warmed up to the idea of lyrics!

Dakota Bradley may only be 18 years old, but he’s proving that age ain’t nothing but a number with his first country single, “Somethin’ Like Somethin’.” It’s the first single from Dakota’s upcoming album, produced in-part by country legend Tim McGraw, due out later this year.

Here’s what McGraw had to saw about the budding young country star: “Dakota is the real deal. He is a great young artist who defies the trends and lives for his music. His voice is unique and instantly recognizable, and his ability to convey pure emotion in his music draws the listener in from the very first word of every song. Working with him on this project has been a lot of fun. The single is a great summer song.” High praise from a country legend like Tim.

Well, gang, spring has finally spring, and we’ve been celebrating it by going for walks in the sun, taking time to smell the flowers, and essentially getting ready for the best season of all (summer is right around the corner!). But, for now, it’s really important to recognize that spring is in the air, and we’ve got a baaaad case of spring fever. How do you cure it, exactly? We’re not sure, but these five songs will help in the meantime:

5. Frank Sinatra — Fly Me To The Moon

“Fly me to the moon / Let me swing among those stars / Let me see what spring is like / On Jupiter and Mars…”

4. Florence + The Machine — Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)

“And in the spring I shed my skin / And it blows away with the changing wind / The water has turned from blue to red / As towards the sky I offer it…”

3. Lil Wayne — Mr. Carter

“Man, I got summer hating on me ‘cause I’m hotter than the sun / Got spring hating on me ‘cause I ain’t never sprung…”

2. Dolly Parton — Jolene

“Your smile is like a breath of spring / Your voice is soft like summer rain / And I cannot compete with you, Jolene…”

1. Nirvana — In Bloom

“Sell kids for food, weather changes moods / Spring is here again, reproductive glands…”

“This is a song about my father,” says Vicci Martinez when describing her song “Let Go,” a stand out track from her latest album Vicci.  Even before she gives us that context though, it’s clear this song has particular importance to her. Here’s Vicci, in her own words, on what inspired the lyrics:

“Right when someone dies, there is a lot of sadness, and you can live in it for a long time, some people live there forever.  But there comes a point to let go of that sadness and embrace the fact that I’m living here without my father. At the same time, you never let go because he is always a part of me.   What I wanted to do was let go of the pain so I could remember the love.  My manager shared her motto in life, something she believes and lives by that has helped her through the tough times.  ’Live for them, don’t die with them.’  For everyone that leaves us, we have a responsibility to live harder and live for them.”

Powerful lyrics like these are perfect for a handwritten lyrics feature, so we’re super excited that Vicci took the time to handwrite out “Let Go,” adding in a couple specific annotations for good measure, creating the perfect personal accompaniment to what’s already a very personal song. Have a look at the lyrics below and be sure to watch the interview at the bottom to hear Vicci explain the song’s meaning in more detail as well as perform it live.
