So Sick Of Love Songs: The Anti-Valentine’s Day Playlist

$

0

Valentine’s Day isn’t for everyone. For every happy couple, it seems like there’s at least 10 single people who may or may not be bitter about the “holiday.” The following playlist is an ode to all those people who are sooooo sick of love songs and just want some good, angry, badass anti-love songs to listen to this February 14th.

10. P!nk – Blow Me (One Last Kiss)

“I think I’ve finally had enough, I think I maybe think too much / I think this might be it for us (blow me one last kiss)”

This little ditty is about the end of a tumultuous relationship. P!nk offers up a big “screw you” to her former significant-other.

9. J. Geils Band – Love Stinks

“I’ve been through diamondsI’ve been through minks I’ve been through it all / (Love stinks)Love stinks yeah, yeah”

Who hasn’t sung this song in their heads every time they’ve felt bad about their love life? Lots of the time love can be a bummer, and this is a great song to remind yourself of that fact.

8. Beyonce – Me Myself And I

“Me, myself and I, that’s all I got in the end / That’s what I found out and there ain’t no need to cry / I took a vow that from now on / I’m gon’ be my own best friend”

Beyonce, one of the strongest females in the music biz, gives us some great advice: all you need is yourself in this world! You can be your own best friend.

7. Soft Cell – Tainted Love

“This tainted love you’ve given -I give you all a boy could give you. / Take my tears and that’s not nearly all – oh / tainted love – tainted love.”

We’re not entirely sure what this confusing-yet-classic 80′s song is about but it leaves a… tainted taste in our mouths about love.

6. Kelis – Caught Out There (I Hate You So Much Right Now)

“You keep tellin’ me lies but to your surprise / Look I got somethin’ for y’all since you’re caught out there /I hate you so much right now, I hate you so much right now”

This Kelis song is awesome because the chorus is just her screaming “I HATE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW.” It’s the best song to blast in your room when you’re feeling angry about romance.

5. Taylor Swift – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

“Oooh we called it off again last night / But Oooh, this time I’m telling you, I’m telling you / We are never ever ever ever getting back together…”

This is probably our favorite break-up song of the year because it’s satisfyingly dismissive of the person Taylor Swift is saying bye-bye to. You go, girl!

4. Cee-Lo Green – F*ck You

“I see you drivin’ ’round town with the girl I love / And I’m like, “F*ck you!” / I guess the change in my pocket wasn’t enough / I’m like, “F*ck you and f*ck her, too!”"

Cee-Lo isn’t afraid to use some strong language to make sure his old girlfriend knows that he is done.

3. Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know

“But you didn’t have to cut me off / Make it like it never happened and that we were nothing / I don’t even need your love, but you treat me like a stranger / And that feels so rough”

The breakup that Gotye is describing sounds rough. This poor guy got cut off cold-turkey from his former love, and anybody who’s been there knows how much that hurts.

2. Kelly Clarkson – Since U Been Gone

“But since you’ve been gone / I can breathe for the first time / I’m so movin’ on, yeah yeah / Thanks to you now I get what I want”

Kelly Clarkson’s empowering anthem reminds us that after a relationship ends, instead of feeling sad sometimes you can feel totally liberated.

1. R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts

“Don’t let yourself go, ’cause everybody cries / And everybody hurts sometimes”

This one is just plain sad. But it makes us feel a bit better to know that other people have felt our pain before.

On this day one year ago, we tragically lost one of the greatest voices and performers of our generation. Whitney Houston may have passed on, but we still turn to her lyrics, especially now that Valentine’s Day is this week and we want to make romantic playlists for our significant others. Lots of her lyrics were filled to the brim with romantic love and longing, and as long and music is around, people will listen to her music and feel the true love that only Whitney would sing. Greatest Love Of All

ZZ Ward Gives Us A Look Inside Her Musical Mind

ZZ Ward, born Zsuzsanna Ward (talk about a cool name!) got her start in the music biz very early. She joined her first band at the age of twelve after getting into blues and hip hop music. She then went on to sign with a label and ever since then her musical journey has been filled with cool things: she was asked to collaborate with Freddie Gibbs after he was impressed by her music, her songs appeared on the television shows Pretty Little Liars and Awkward, and she’s worked with big-name producers the likes of Ryan Tedder of One Republic.

ZZ released her debut full-length album Til The Casket Drops in late 2012 and we wanted to get to know her a bit better so we asked her to fill out the My Musical Mind questionnaire. Read on for her answers (and her adorable self-portrait — featuring her singnature fedora)…
